9 Essential Apps to get the most out of Life in Singapore as an Expat [4 minute read]
With one of the highest smartphone adoption rates in the world, expats enjoying life in Singapore are spoilt for choice when it comes to mobile apps.
Over the past three years, we have spent a lot of time working with expats relocating to the Lion City, so we wanted to share our favourite nine mobile apps that we consider to be essential for getting the most out of life in Singapore.
In no particular order, here are our nine favourite apps. Be sure to let us know your favourite app in the comments!
If you’re living in Singapore as an expat, WhatsApp is a must to keep in touch with family and friends back home. It’s also one of (if not the) most popular ways to communicate amongst the local populations both socially and professionally.
WhatsApp uses your phone’s Internet connection to send messages so you can avoid costly overseas SMS fees.
Our favourite feature of WhatsApp is the group chat feature. This a great way to efficiently stay in touch with family while abroad, as well as the friends and colleagues you meet during your new life in Singapore.
If you’re not on WhatsApp in Singapore you’re likely to get a raised eyebrow!
Grab is Singapore’s very own taxi-hailing app, serving as the go-to ‘Uber-like’ product of South East Asia.
Grab boasts a first class user experience, accurate mapping and a product suite that is constantly improving and innovating including multi-user ridesharing, food delivery, and payment solutions.
Combining these qualities with a highly localised service means Grab is the go-to ridesharing service for expats and locals alike in Singapore.

Since it’s launch in 2015, you’d be hardpressed to not see a bike or scooter zooming down the Singapore streets sporting a giant green Deliveroo bag.
If you’re looking for fast access to a variety of different takeaway cuisines, Deliveroo is the app for you. The app caters to all tastes and cravings, and allows you to select options based on different cuisines, meals and nutrition levels (we’re talking ‘healthy’ to ‘guilty pleasures’).
The app filters local restaurants and eateries based on proximity, guaranteeing a relatively speedy delivery time and reliable service.
